About
Joan DeCollibus is a lifelong maker whose quilts beautifully capture her love of the vivid colors found in her gardens and the surrounding coastal landscapes. After a career in graphic design and digital marketing, she started quilting to get off the computer and back to hand made work. Quilting allows Joan to work big while exploring schemes and geometry.
Her creative process begins with designing patterns and selecting or hand-dyeing fabrics to achieve just the right hues and textures. The cutting phase, always a focused daytime task due to the sharp blades involved, leads into careful piecing and pressing—equal parts sewing and ironing. Completing the quilt involves crafting the backside, machine quilting the layers together, and finishing with binding, a step she likens to framing a painting.
Joan is constantly innovating and looks forward to incorporating hand quilting, applique, embroidery, and more hand-dyed fabrics into her future designs. Her work reflects a deep connection to the natural beauty that continues to inspire her creativity.
